This tiny model is also an aquaponics model…if you look closely you can see the end caps are where the fish are…and you can grow a good amount of food in this family model.

Cafeteria...what? there is no problem here

This was in the middle of the cafeteria.
They of course said there was not a mold or moisture problem on campus. Many students were and are ill.

Parents hired me to get film and information.
this is part of the photo portfolio.

Legal Issues and your air quality

It is that time of year when with toxic chemicals wafting up our nose and particles clogging our ears we remember fresh air.

What is with that potpourri you use in the bathroom? have you ever dusted it?

It’s bad enough the smell let alone dusty potpourri.

Anyone have a hard time with scented candles?

Ah Christmas. Bayberry candles and fake scented plug ins, pine trees emitting sap and Aunt you know who’s 50 year old perfume all mixed with potpourri (which has never been dusted) and the fresh scent of …what? what could possibly be fresh here in Iowa?

Be cautious this time of year of nose overload. Virtually all the products you are smelling are using chemicals to scent the product and chemicals to propel it into the air and others to stabilize the molecule so it stinks for a long time etc etc. If you are sensitive to fragrances you already know this but – for those of you who are not, think of us out here who are sensitive. Using potpourri in a bathroom, scented deodorizers, fabric softeners, scented candles, plug-ins and then personal body products add a difficult load to the nose and respiratory system. At best for those who are healthy you might actually feel “plugged” or stuffed up and for others it can create a severe headache, nausea and vomiting.

Keep your indoor air as fresh as possible. There is enough “hot air” this time of year as it is!!

Your perfume is killing me

Greetings

It is so common to feel “blue” or “down” around the holidays. Even more so if you are like me and live alone and without many friends around. The question is how to get out of the blahs during this time. I am not saying go out and participate, hoop it up or over-do. Some people just don’t want to be with others at this time. It is hard to even feel festive when money is tight and you see so much suffering and needless spending around you. Yet-even if it is just for just a few days – do a few things for yourself that do not cost more than a $dollar yet give you a great yield.

Here are my suggestions.

1. Get some Epsom salts ($.50 cents at the dollar store) and take Epsom salt baths. It really does make a difference in how you feel. Keep adding more hot water…don’t give up and let it down the drain. Stay in a while. if you do not have a bath pillow, roll up a towel and place it under your neck to support in on the porcelain. Be daring and add music or a non-scented candle.

2. If you can manage a little computer time and have one…make it a point to watch at least ten minutes a day of laughter videos. For older generationals a little Carol Burnette, SNL, or for the feverishly kitten lovers – silly kitten videos. There is plenty of evidence laughter changes the way we heal. Dr. Bernie Siegel noted this in Love, Medicine and Miracles way back when Doctors did not believe meditation or healing therapies made a difference. Now look at Cancer Centers and their “commitment to the whole person” programs. We have indeed come a long way. laugh whatever way you can.

3. Avoid any place that is playing Christmas Music.

4. Play one song that makes you happy – not sappy or sad. It may take work.

5. Avoid any emails or phone calls that will trigger sadness or bring up memories you do not want to participate in on these days.
